Speed on the Broad gauge! Name: Mark Date Posted: Aug 22, 07 - 8:22 AM Message: I was reading the other day about the Broad gauge and that in the 1840's only 18 years after Rocket did 30 miles an hour Broad engine were running at eighty! Standard gauge engines at the time couldn't reach that. It would have been interesting if the broad had been laid down to Wimborne over the Dorset Central from the Somerset Central at Cole i wounded what it would have looked like! The Great Western railway nearly took over the Southampton & Dorchester railway and laid Broad Guage to Southampton! | |||
